We have been working again with Shannon Trust, a national charity supporting thousands of prisoners a year, helping them to transform their lives by unlocking the power of reading. We have created two new 3-DVD disc box sets of learning to read material (Manual 3 and Manual 4) to suppliment the paper-based system.
Over 50% of people in prison struggle with reading and many cannot read at all. The learn to read scheme 'Turning Pages' from the Shannon Trust is a peer to peer system where both mentors and learners develop key skills that can help them find future employment. Co-created by literacy specialists for, and with, adult learners, Turning Pages has been used by thousands of learners since its launch in June 2015.
Due to the current Covid-19 crisis, the trust had been unable to safely send volunteers into prisons to help prisoners learn to read and so the Turning Pages DVD system was created to act as virtual mentors while face to face learning could not take place. It has been very sucessful and allows a way for prisoners to learn at thier own pace on thier own as well.
We have been asked to help again by providing DVD disc authoring, menu and cover artwork for manual 3 and manual 4 of the Learning to Read series with video content encoding and disc authoring to create DVD material that supports the paper-based learning system.
If you have a film project and need help getting it onto DVD or Blu-ray then please get in touch with us at Maniac Films or check out our DVD & Blu-ray services for more information.
