Admissions Video for Bristol University CDT-Comms

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Communications at Bristol University offers a 4-year PhD for the next generation of communications engineers.
Through the programme, postgraduates will have the chance to collaborate with industrial partners in a state-of-the-art environment for training postgraduates to lead innovative research, future product development and exploitation.

To help with the promotion the PhD course and the centre itself, we have been filming with some of the tutors, students and industrial partners in and around the CDT Communications (Centre for Doctoral Training in Communications) at Bristol University.

The aim is to create a 5 min promotional film which will be shown on the University website as well as on various student recruitment websites.

During our day at the University, we interviewed a number of students who were studying different aspects of communications, and were also at different stages in their studies. We also interviewed tutors and industrial partners about how important the work is and how working with industry can benefit not only the students, but also the companies themselves as well.

We filmed the interviews using two cameras where possible (although in the Anechoic chamber, space was at a premium so we had to work with a single smaller camera). The Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro was the primary camera filming in 4K and we used a Sony a7s II as the 2nd camera, again filming in 4K.
We also used a 2nd Sony a7s II on our Ronin-M gimbal to film cutaway shots and additional shots where space was tight. We lit the interviews using our Aputure bi-colour LED panels, which gave us flexibility with the different light in various interview locations throughout the day.

We will edit the footage into a short promotional film that will be available to view online in the near future.

UPDATE: The video has been complted and signed off and has now been released online by the University and is available to watch on YouTube. Check out the video link by clicking the image at the top of the page to see the finished film. We also created Closed Captions for the film - subtitles - so you can switch these on and off using the video controller when playing back the video.
