Product Description

Hire the amazing DJI wireless video transmission system. Up to 20Mbps video transmission from HDMI or SDI sources at 1080p/60fps up to 3km away with low delay (35ms). We have used the SDR transmission system in live camera projects and the delay is minimal, good enough for focus pulling too. The signal has a strong penetration through walls. Compared to some Teradek and Atom systems, we think the DJI SDR transmission is better and has less/no signal interference.

Video Monitoring

The default setup is HDMI or SDI in from your camera and then HDMI or SDI out on the RX into a video monitor. You can also use the USB-C output on the receiver to connect into a smartphone or tablet to watch the video. In broadcast mode, each transmitter can have an unlimited number of receivers. Additionally, the transmitter allows for direct connection to smartphones or tablets over Wi-Fi, offering a cost-effective, dual-channel monitoring experience without the need for an additional receiver.

DJI SDR Transmission supports multiple monitoring methods and can output three SDR signals and two Wi-Fi signals simultaneously. The DJI Ronin APP also allows a range of features to be seen on a smartphone or tablet running the app, such as waveform, false colour, LUT changes, focus peaking as well as local recording and playback! When set in broadcast mode, the Ronin app will also allow the user to switch between 2 different camera sources (two different transmitters needed).

Powering the units

You can power the transmitter and receiver with an NPF style battery or via a high-powered USB-C power supply.  We supply an NPF to DTAP adapter with coiled cable for each end, so you can power from Vlock battery or your camera DTAP output. We also hire long life NPF battery kit if you prefer. We also have NPF to Vlock adapters too, which are useful for the RX end when mounting on a light stand away from a power source. We provide a USB-C 100W power adapter for one RX. You need to use a standard 100w PD protocol charger 9v 2A.

When used with DJI RS 4 Pro, DJI RS 4, or DJI RS 3 Pro, the transmitter can be mounted on the gimbal and powered directly by it (usb-c cable), eliminating the need for a separate battery, keeping the gimbal weight down.

Technology

SDR stands for Software Defined Radio technology, DJI also support Wi-Fi transmission to increase flexibility at local distances. SDR transmission can reach up to 3KM with low latency and high bitrate signal transmission. The devices support seamless auto frequency hopping across 2.4GHz, 5.8GHz and DFS frequency bands. In case of interference, it can automatically switch to the optimal channel, effortlessly tackling complex environmental challenges. SDR mode allows video up to 20Mbps and in Wi-Fi mode (to smartphone app) up to 8Mbps.

You can manually change channels on the units, as well as use the DJI Ronin app to monitor channel interference if needed. In most scenarios, you just plug and play though and let the system auto-select the best operating bands.

Metadata Transmission and Remote Control

DJI SDR Transmission supports metadata transmission from mainstream cinema cameras like ARRI and RED via SDI. This provides directors, cinematographers, and DIT teams with quick access to detailed shooting information in real time.

The DJI Ronin app can control some camera features (ISO, aperture, shutter, stop/start) and DJI RS gimbal features (virtual joystick, gimbal recentering). Connect the camera USB-C port to the USB-C port on the Transmitter. The Blackmagic 6K Pro support remote control of ISO, Focus and shutter speed this way.

Two Way Comms

You can even plug a mic headset into the TX unit (stereo mini jack input that works with our Talkback headsets) and talk with someone on the RX end with a similar headset. You have one-way audio by default from the TX to RX or via the DJI Ronin app or monitor, but two-way audio can be setup from the TX to one RX only.

Notes:

  • The DJI SDR Transmission does NOT work with the DJI Transmission (separate product) and if they are used at the same location you must ensure that the central frequencies do not overlap.
  • The SDR Transmission does NOT connect to the DJI Focus Pro.
  • SDR Transmission works with Ronin RS 3 Pro, RS4, RS4 Pro
  • When connecting via Wi-Fi for the first time to a smartphone or tablet, use the QR code to connect if password is not known.
